Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)


Defination : Inflammation of the genital tract including endometritis, salphingitis, oophoritis etc.

  • Causes:
  • STD,
  • After abortion/ MR,
  • IUCD insertion,
  • Multiple sexual partners etc etc.

Symptoms:

LAP, LBP, offensive purulent vaginal discharge, irregular menstruation, dyspareunia, fever, dysuria, sometimes postcoital bleeding, on p/v exam swelling and redness of vulva-vagina, tender, congested cervix, H/o sexual exposure.

Treatment :

  • 1. Analgesic
  • 2. Antibiotic
  • 3. Metronidazole
  • 4. Antihistamine if need
  • 5. Topical, VT if need
